# Fondation Beyeler

> Fondation Beyeler is a museum of modern and contemporary art in Riehen, near Basel, Switzerland. Set within a park, the museum ensemble brings together the original museum building designed by Renzo Piano with Peter Zumthor's expanded ensemble — the Wyss Museum, the Pavilion, and the Service Building — alongside the restored historical buildings on the site. It holds the collection assembled by Ernst and Hildy Beyeler and stages internationally acclaimed temporary exhibitions.

The museum opened in 1997, after Ernst and Hildy Beyeler converted their private art collection into a public foundation in 1982. Today, the collection comprises more than 400 works of modern and contemporary art. It includes works by artists such as Paul Cézanne, Vincent van Gogh, Claude Monet, Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, Wassily Kandinsky, Paul Klee, Alberto Giacometti, Francis Bacon, Mark Rothko, Andy Warhol, Gerhard Richter, Anselm Kiefer, Marlene Dumas, Olafur Eliasson, Pierre Huyghe and Philippe Parreno, among many others.
